RCIA NEEDS SPONSORS

Who may serve as Sponsor?

To serve the goals of R.C.I.A., sponsors must be active, practicing Catholics from the Church of St. Francis Xavier; ideally with the experience of serving in a Xavier ministry. The ideal sponsor is mature in their faith and active, so as to connect their candidate or catechumen to the parish, via parish activities, ministry, and overall parish life. Parishioners of the Church of St. Francis Xavier interested in becoming an R.C.I.A. sponsor must:

  • Be fully initiated in the Catholic Church (Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist.)

  • Not be parent/guardian of the intended participant.

  • Attend all RCIA meetings. RCIA starts on Sunday, September 16 and ends on Sunday, June 9. Sessions take place at X-Café in Xavier High School from 1 pm to 3 pm (30 West 16th Street.)

  • Meet with catechumen/candidates outside RCIA meetings.

If you are interested and want to know more about becoming a sponsor, you are invited to an informational session with Sister Charlotte Raftery in the Mary Chapel on Sunday, September 26 from 10 am to 11 am.
